I am going to give a little review of this new game because it's fairly obscure and has little net presence.

At it's core, The Void is a resource management game that allows you to progress the story by spending and managing various resources. The game does this through a fully 3D adventure world, that allows the player to explore various areas by clicking on POI-type map.

Gameplay:

Basically you have three storage components to your character: your main storage reservoir, your health bar, and your "pallet" which is basically ammunition storage for the various actions including spells and combat.

You explore the various game world and collect different "colors" - the main resource of the game, the color goes straight to your main reservoir. From there you can choose what to do with your various colors.

If you choose to fill your health bar, different colors will do different things, for example blue will cause you to run faster, while green gives you added defense. When you roam around the map to move from place to place you gradually loose health, so you are constantly re-filling your health to avoid death.

As you loose heath on the "map" (or the Void as it is called in the game) your colored health will gradually convert into your pallet (or ammunition). In this way loosing health is also a good thing because it gives you the ammo you need to perform tasks, but you constantly have to balance distributing color to your health verses your pallet.

What do you do with this color ammo? To draw glyphs, glyphs are spells that are cast by drawing a symbol on your screen. Glyphs have many functions: you can reanimate dead trees that will generate color over time, fight enemies, temporary power ups, but most importantly they are needed to unlock new areas that will advance the story.

So these are the basic mechanics of the game, my personal judgment is that this type of gameplay is insanely addictive: the game never gives you enough resources to be comfortable, your constantly on the brink of death - constantly trying to keep yourself alive, you will say to yourself "I just need to do this one more thing" over the course of 4 hour gaming session.

Art Style

The reason I picked up the game in the first place was the very surreal art style, it's a very "artsy" surrealism not the cartooney kind like in Zeno Clash (totally different type of game). The first time I set eyes on the large arch in the first level, I was blown away - sadly many of the levels are fairly boring looking But I haven't gotten very far.

Who this game is for \ Why you should pick it up

Addictive as hell resource management gameplay will keep you playing for a long time, even if your as jaded as I am. Chances are you haven't played anything like this before. But be wary, that this is really meant for the old school PC gamer who appreciates a substantial challenge; I think most console\casual gamers will find this too difficult to play.

Also there are boobies.

Cliff Notes
-Adventure game in full 3D world (FPS style)
-Addictive resource management
-Surreal art style
-boobies

The graphics look amazing, although the gameplay trailer was not all that impressive. Either way, I will check this out soon.

Bumping this thread for some recognition. With the current Steam sale, this title goes for $10 and I believe is well worth the money.

The game is tough since you're thrown into it with little explanation as to what does what. If you're like most people, you'll be restarting the game several times at first as each time you figure out something new that helps you survive longer. Everything is working against you - the game was originally entitled Tension - and as ixelion mentioned in his first post, you're almost always on the brink of death. But it is really fun due to that challenge and finding something new or finally reaching the next set of chambers is reward enough.
