The view on buying a ps3

I really hope this doesn't start an argument. I am just asking if, while taking into account ps3 exclusive games (MGS4, whatever else) and the ps3 versions of multi-platform games, is it worth getting a 40gb ps3? As in, are the differences worth the money. I have a pc so I am not too worried about the 360 exclusives for the most part. Thanks for taking a look and for any advice.

I own all the systems and I would say I enjoy the PS3 the most out of all the consoles. Sony has a good list of first party titles and other exclusives that are very good. I find the PSN to offer some really great unique/creative titles as well that you can't get anywhere else. Multiplatform games are now virtually the same to each other with very very minor differences. When the PS3 first came out that wasn't the case, the 360's multiplatform titles were better but now they are even.

To decide if the PS3 is worth it to you, you need to figure out two things.
First, is blu ray important to you?
Second, look at the PS3/PSN exclusive titles and see if they of what interest you.

It was mostly the desire to play MGS4 plus all the new multi-platform games coming. I guess Star Ocean IV is 360 only though. I would still get one if I found a deal I guess. Thanks for the replies.

OP, you're in a similar position as me. I own a PS3 and a PC built for gaming. I do own a Wii too, but that's just... well because. I rarely play it though, and in fact let my sister borrow it for the summer.
But yeah, with all the 360 exclusives ending up on the PC, and being that I generally prefer PC gaming to consoles, it's still a win in my book. Don't need to buy another console, and hell, haven't even upgraded my computer since a built it a year and a half ago, and see no need to do so for awhile. But I love my PS3. I got the 60gb launch flavor, and have used the PS2 BC a few times, but generally don't even need it. But the 1st party and what I'd consider second party games are fun, and the Blu-ray 'feature' is amazing.

+1 for 60gb ps3.

god of war from ps2, older mgs titles if you want to play mgs4 with the full backstory...then not to mention some of the ps3 titles (gt5, uncharted, resistance, heavenly sword, im pretty sure R&C is exclusive too, not positive).

yap!

You could always wait a few weeks and get the 80GB, $399 PS3 that lacks PS2 BC. If you absolutely need PS2 capability then buy a PS2, you can get them pretty cheap these days, even brand new. Not sure what the going rate is for the launch 60GB PS3 models though.

Seen a few in FS/FT for around $450-500 with games and a movie or two bundled.

Not really worth it. A new PS3 costs 400, a new PS2 costs 130. That's 530 for two brand new consoles. Granted, you don't get the bundled games or movies, but you get brand new hardware with warranties intact. If there are several games you desire in the bundle though, that might make it worth it.
