The Video Game Revolution on PBS

Yippie. Another hour and half interview with that Pacman master with the mullet. These things always come off like they're being presented to your grandma...cause they are.

Actually, IMO it's a pretty damn good show. I sort of skipped watching the NES and Genesis eras, since we (brother and I) never liked any consoles after the Atari's. But our local PBS station (NPT) barfed and the screen went black for a minute or two. And I was recording it. If anyone gets it digitally, please let me know.

One minor thing is they keep switching to new games while talking about the classics, which might confuse some. Also they showed artwork for something called Dragon Slayer (unless this was some home game?) instead of Dragon's Lair.

Joe Lieberman...what a goob.

Friend of mine just sent me this:

"OMG! They just said that the SNES shipped with Zelda II? WTF!!!"

heh....mine surely didnt! 😛

I am watching it right now. It sure brings back memories (NES with Contra, Mario, DuckHunt, ect.).

I'm watching it too. While playing games, too, of course. I got very uncomfortable watching without having a game in front of me to control.

Just came here for a sec to check something on HD, and figured I'd say hi.

I watched alot of the second half. It was o.k., though the documentary's last bits have nothing on a good cyberpunk novel...

Set up the TiVo to record the next showing.
Cool. Yeah, PBS shows it airs tomorrow (for anyone else). I could have sworn TV Guide showed it was an hour, so I ran out of tape. Doh.

I knew unlikely, but I was hoping they'd at least mention the Amiga.

Ah, the Amiga. Great systems. My uncle had a CD32 a few years ago. If I knew he was selling it I so would have bought it from him.

I wish I'd kept my Amiga 500 and all the numerous disks of games and graphic/music demos I had. 🙁

good god, before this i didn't know they had nancy drew games. how frickin lame.

the bashing of violent games was a tad annoying though. not a mention that they aren't dumb as people make them out to be. you need strategy in rts's, and teams with good tactics win in fps. its not just simple reflexes😛 stupid girl game = smart ...guy game = stupid stereotypes. that little kid playing starcraft on a mac with worried parents..maybe the parents would do good to learn something about that game. more complex then they probably think. and the bs about early games being more about gaining ground then killing.. bah. chess? what the heck do u think is happening in chess anyways, knights and soldiers giving up their ground after a game of tic tac toe? sure its futher abstracted, but in the end its all violent.

Oh man, those kids parents pissed me off. Grow some damn balls and act like a parent. You don't want your kid glued to the computer? Simple, take the thing away make him play outside. Naturally he's gonna hate you for it, but guess what all kids will hate their parents at some point. Other than that I thought it was quite good. Now if only I could find a torrent for it.

personally, I thought video games went downhill after pong.

what's with the hype about color and more than one sound? graphics don't make the game :|
