The Veterans Administration's guide to efficiency

rudder

Lifer
Also known as the future of obamacare. So let's say you are a government agency who cannot handle all the requests for exams from veterans and there is a serious backlog which makes you look bad. What do you do? what do you do?

Easy. You simply delete medical records which will delete all evidence of the request for an exam. No more backlog.

Somehow I have a bad feeling that this is the direction for healthcare in this country. Too many patients and not enough resources.

Just so long as people are randomly ignored, all is good. Just so blacks are being ignored on equal level as whites, women ignored equally as men, gays ignored equally as non-gays, rich ignored equally as the poor, all is happy in liberal paradise. No voting block can claim unfair discrimination.

Cue up: dismiss the source… "Bush did it!" and the ol standby "Nuh uh!" in three… two… one…

How cute.

Blame the left for the consequences of a right wing war due to underfunding by -- wait for it -- the guy who started the wars in the first place.

And what does this have to do with the ACA?

Oh wait, nothing. Just a lame attempt to link two completely unrelated things.

So there was an issue with VA funding in 2008 and a backlog of work? Isn't this old news? And how is this related to the ACA?

HEHE Straight from Faux News.
I know, I was watching.
I needed a laugh.
And I wanted to see massive twisting and spinning equal to that from the tornado in the movie Wizard Of Oz.
Typically, Faux never let me down. Nor the big OZ.

Surely you have not forgotten comrade that there are those in Obama's Amerika that have "special" rights?

Well, theres loads of black veterans in DC and thats one of the worst VA hospitals in America.
I dont know if its a coincidence or deliberate plot.

I HATE going there. Doctors are overworked and angry. Nurses are overworked, angry AND underpaid. The rest of the staff seems perpetually angry.

Obamacare is running along like a piece of finely tuned machinery. We can expect nothing less than the glory of a victorious plan!

My step-son almost lost his leg due to incompetence at the Detroit VA. They refused to do an x-ray on his femur instead they gave him Motrin. It took three trips down there and him getting really loud to get them off their lazy asses. He had a double fracture that became infected. Two surgeries and a PICC line with an antibiotic pump for months is what it eventually took to fix him up. To this day if he has even a minor cut he must either address it himself or have it addressed immediately to ensure an infection does not spiral out of control. He HATES them also.

I shudder to think of VA medicine becoming the norm for the nation. But as rudder said, too many patients and not enough resources. The future is pretty clear.

VA hospitals have been hell holes for years. As others have said, the hospitals are underfunded and overworked. Our vets deserve better than this

Pretty scary. My dad is up there in years, close to 70 now. Relies on the VA (even worse, his first stop is a couple hours away in the UP). By the time anything became obviously screwed up, it would be too late.

I haven been to the Detroit VA. But if its anything like the DC hospital then they arent lazy, just overworked and frustrated.

Do you mean to say people were sitting around making paper airplanes instead of doing x-rays?
Could you not find anyone in the offices?
Did they turn you away at the front door?

Waa???? When costs are cut the level of care is affected?

Now if the private sector did something like this wouldnt somebody land in jail?

They should be taking the cuts from the military and dumping that money into the VA along with restructuring it. It should also be fully funded one year in advance to insulate it from partisan squabbling.

I wasn't with him for his initial visits only to visit him after his surgeries. His mother and I were present when he fractured his femur. We heard the bone crack as he slammed into the dock after waiting too long to let go of a swing rope over the water.

He waited three weeks before going to the VA which was stupid, but he'd been there before for other issues and knew their drill. When he went he was in horrific pain and they told him that there was nothing wrong with his leg, that he was just looking for pain meds to abuse. No x-ray needed.

On his second visit, his thigh had started turning colors and the skin would stay dimpled when pressed. They would not even look at his leg. The diagnosis was somebody looking for pain meds. More Motrin and get the hell out.

Third visit he got loud, real loud and they relented and did an x-ray.

I guess we can call it incompetence, laziness, apathy, anger, frustration or whatever label we want, but for certain it was not what anyone would term practicing medicine.

Look at medicare. The government is continually cutting reimbursement rates to healthcare providers. Doctors are losing money seeing medicare patients. An ever growing number of doctors won't take new medicare patients because they cannot afford to. It is the same issue as the VA. To many needs and not enough resources to fill those needs.

Okay so ignore the daily caller.

Do you find it acceptable that a government employee simply deletes patient records to improve efficiency? Really?

That didn't take long.

Waiting for an explanation of the alleged deleted records but the larger issue.

How did the back log happen? Nobody is accusing sheer incompetence. If the was just an overwhelming amount of claims why weren't more people hired at the VA to deal with the load?

Was it perhaps budget cuts??
