Just assembled a machine on a H55M-UD2H motherboard with Intel i3 540 CPU which runs Prime95 torture test for 24 hours without errors on bench and in case. I installed it in a Thermaltake XaserIII case I had in the lab which had a floppy in it. So who needs a floppy now, but since it was there I connected it. The LED never lit and the machine did not see the drive. I have a large stock of power cables and floppy cables -- both flat and round so swapped both cables still the same. Made sure cables were installed correctly by going to ones that are keyed. OK, I have floppys of all sorts in the lab, so swapped drives. Machine still works perfectly in all respects but simply doesn't see the floppy. Even took one of the floppys this machine couldn't see with the cables attached and hooked it to another machine in the lab -- and of course the floppy was recognized and works perfectly I've tried several floppy drives, several cables -- both power and 34 connector -- connected to different power outlets from the PS. The floppy light never illuminates and the machine doesn't show it in device manager or my computer. It acts for all the world like it isn't getting power, but like I said I have swapped power cables numerous times and verified the cable isn't the problem by connecting the drive in another machine using the same cables -- leaving them connected so it wasn't a problem of maybe a bad contact.
Fortunately it is only a floppy, but I hate to admit something so trivial has me stumped. OK, I admit it. Anyone have any ideas?
PS The torture tests are at 4GHz
