The USPS seems to be getting better!!!

I've always had a love/hate relationship with them. I've always been a proponent of either disbanding this agency and/or expanding their business to include other services (cell phone, email addresses). However, it seems they are getting a "bit better" over the last 10 years. Here is a few things I've seen.

1. Push and expansion of their Priority Mail services to include free tracking and insurance. I think this is a big plus!!! Makes PM worth it.

2. Creation of Informed delivery program (will sms you before mail arrives with tracking number). This is supposed to be expanded to include a "image" of the front envelope sent to you via email.

3. Sunday delivery for some Amazon products. Yep, Amazon met with USPS to provide 7 day delivery schedule!!!

4. Ties with FedEx where FedEx packages can be dropped at USPS location and USPS will do "last leg" delivery of FedEx.

5. Ties with UPS (UPS Innovations).

6. Discounts via Ebay (always have done this), but ebay's shipping page gives you great ability to print and ship!!!

Just curious what has happened to their "postal vending machines". They rolled a few out years ago and they worked great. You weight the package there and it prints out postage. I never see them anymore!!!

It's interesting how USPS is working with the private companies. The companies seem to be leveraging the infrastructure of USPS and USPS is offering more of a utility like service.

The post office by my work has one of those vending machines. If I haven't done postage online beforehand I usually use that isntead of the counter.

I agree that USPS is pretty good now. Their prices for Priority are much better than UPS or Fedex for me for most things, especially when paying online. I just sold a few things and I used USPS for three of the four. Ended up with Fedex for the last one because it was very big and the postal service rate wasn't as good as FedEx

Yesterday the mail carrier thanked me for supporting USPS when she dropped off some Amazon stuff. Definitely caught me off guard.

i've never understood the animosity against USPS. always seems to be the anti-government bozos who need an entity to vilify. i've had as many problems w/ fedex and ups as i have with usps.

I see some of my packages get deferred from FedEx/UPS to USPS and whereas i usually get my FedEx/UPS package around 5-6pm, USPS gets it to me around 2pm. Definitely some nice logistics going on there.

I did an out of home business and I shipped exclusively with USPS. Out of my hundreds of shipments (not sure I did it long enough to hit thousands), I only had problems with 2-3 packages. Two were just delivered quite a bit late (one of which cost me), and the other was shipping to Canada... just plain never made it. I quit shipping to Canada after that, didn't get a lot of orders from there and that one pretty much ate the profit from the others.
