The use of a CD-RW as your main cd drive ??

Is it a good idea ? I've heard that you should always use a second drive to take the strain off the RW because they're more of a delicate drive & should only be used for copying/rewriting material .

Just wondering because my Creative 48x is on the fritz !~!

Thanks 🙂

I have heard the same thing before too but I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that. If you go buy a Dell or Gateway with cdrw and dvd those are the only two drives. I have built systems with two drives and with just the cdrw with no problems.

Its 2002 a CDRW drive no longer costs $1500 like my old pinacle 2X scsi external

Use the drive if it breaks a year down the line upgrade to a DVD+RW or whatever

I've been using a 8x Philips CDRW as my main CDROM for about 12 months now - never had any problems.

When and if it ever breaks down I'll simply buy and newer, faster one. CDRWs are so cheap nowadays they can be considered throw-away components.

Most CD Writers read alot slower then a dedicated CD-Rom Reader.....I personally use a dedicated CD reader because it saves wear and tear on my Expensive Plextor burner

I used to be concerned about that, but seeing as how I just paid $80 (after a $20 rebate) for my 16x10x40 LGe CD-RW I'm not conerned anymore. If it breaks in a year, it will be a good excuse to upgrade and I'll have gotten my $80 of use out of it🙂

I used to think that my old Toshiba 32x SCSI CD-ROM was fast, that's why I kept it. But my LGe CD-RW reads extremely fast, so I have no complaints about it's read speed.
