Arguably, we aren't based on what you're expecting. We are so first world that we are expected to pay for cable TV (ESPN) to watch the most popular sport in the world.

Actually in most third world countries, national sports are on free TV.

So the title of this thread is misleading.

Usually it is the franchise based sport which are on pay TV in most countries, first or third world

I suspect 99 percent of people in America watching soccer are native Spanish speakers.
And they already have dozens of channels up here dedicated to that group.

I think you don't know what 1st, 2nd, or 3rd world means. All it comes down to is NATO, Eastern Bloc, or non aligned.

As such, USA is 1st world, Poland 2nd world, and Switzerland 3rd world.

So, it's the World Cup, right? And, you'd expect that SOME freaking US TV English speaking station would broadcast the game when the US is playing, right?

No. :colbert:

So, now I'm watching Telemundo. VIVA MEXICO!

That is because Soccer sux and real Americans do not want to see it.

You know, you'd think that in a country of over 300 millions, and when their team advanced to the World Cup, their citizens would get to see the game... Just a thought.

I did watch it, like an American- on my 65 inch plasma and my 7 inch 1080p tablet simultaneously.

Seems very American to me I had to pay but for paying I get maximum quality and options.

English commentary sucks for soccer... the only way to watch soccer is with Spanish commentary.

Well, you're a rich 'Murican, and love to pay for things. I'm a po 'Murican who believes in paying for things that should be paid for.

I thought I had an agreement with the establishment that I'll watch their TV programs, and in exchange, put up with their advertisement.

But yeah, my basic cable comes with HBO, but not ESPN, I think basic cable tier two will have that. I wonder if I upgrade to tier three they'd let me logon to espn on the intarweb.

That was the arrangement back in the 70s. Times change.

Now the deal is that you will pay for cable AND watch advertisements, and up to $10 of that cable bill will go to Mickey Mouse to provide the ESPN family of channels with the content that family has exclusive access to.

Actually you don't even need to do that- my Uverse internet let me stream via WatchESPN despite me not having cable TV through them.
