I have had my iPhone 4 for over two years now. I am not really excited about any of the current phone designs from Android except the Galaxy Nexus (which is a little underpowered compared to the new phones). I also want to purchase directly from Google anyway to have pure Android.

My iPhone 4 is in perfect condition and Amazon is offering $270 for it.

Has anyone done a trade-in before? Essentially I would trade my phone in for the gift card (I spend so much on Amazon I do not mind the gift card), and then purchase the unlocked Galaxy Nexus for +$100 over the trade-in.

This phone would then keep me placated until my "dream phone" came out (not sure what that is yet....probably next generation Nexus phone) over the next year and I would then jump back into a subsidized contract.

Does this sound like a good plan, or am I being retarded?

I've traded in my old Palm Pre and a slew of video games into Amazon for gift cards without any problems. It takes them a few weeks to turn it around but they've always gotten the amounts right. Just make sure you read the descriptions about item conditions and return everything you're asked to (like the USB cord, if necessary).

Considering Google's selling the unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus for $350 (works out to just under $400 shipped and with tax), that'd be a huge leap over your iPhone 4 IMO. As long as you're not married to the Apple ecosystem and know what to expect from Android ICS/JB, I'd go for it.

It's a great idea. You can even try T mo or Simple Mobile depending on coverage/data use.

Thanks for the replies. I am basically married to ATT because my family all has it and they can call me for free.

Also, ATT coverage around Atlanta is decent.
