I think the point he's trying to make is that the industry will crash without a major evolution. We're still playing with the same basic controllers as we did with the NES. The graphics are better and more immersive but the core activity hasn't changed much.
Maybe VR or something will put a new spin on the video game market and change it again.
Also, from my observations, there is just too much product out there. Seriously, how many times do you go to the store and see all these games you will probably never play. It seems like there are set franchises (ie. Madden, Quake, GTA, Sims, etc.) that people tend to gravitate towards but then you've got all these other 2nd or 3rd tier titles that barely make a dent. The game market is ripe for a contraction. Hell, if Black Isle with all its wonderful games can go under, how can all these other companies besides EA, Activision and THQ expect to survive?
