Mechanically flawed though, Linkens doesn't block TA's spill damage in any way shape or form. Enjoy it for what it is.

So is Riki really that good in pub games if players dont get true sight? Guy last night went 34-1 as Riki and was just crushing. I would blink in as sand king to a group of 2-3 heroes, get them all down to like 1/4 health, then he'd pop in from being invis, kill them all, then go back to being invis and escape.

>_<

Yes. I think Bounty Hunter wrecks low levels better. He has spammable invis from level 1, not useless until 6 like Riki. Track gold is straight up OP for you & your team. He can carry just fine in low levels (Bfury, Deso, BKB, MKB).

What I usually do to pass the time is just watch matches; I've been picking up a lot of tricks just by watching the higher level games.

Makes me wish I jumped onto the DOTA2 bandwagon earlier.

I got in on the Dota 2 beta very early and played one game and left for awhile. I guess because everyone was so new, I went mid with Venomancer and went like 15-0 in the first like 12 minutes. At that point, I just left the game and didn't return for months. Thankfully, it stopped being like that when I came back.

Watching high level play, especially with someone explaining the choices, helps expand your game a lot. You start to notice how to pay more attention to your surroundings, you watch the minimap a lot more and you get a good overview of item builds and usually why they go that route. A good caster will shed insight on why players are doing what they are doing.

Yea, if I'm farming alone bit away from the tower, my eyes are permanently fixed on the minimap (and instinctively last hitting with a quick gander to my hero every 2-3 seconds), making sure there are 5 enemies. If there's only 1 missing, then I calculate if I'm able to run away from that specific missing hero.

If there's 2-3 missing, I'm outta there. If 4-5 missing, then I tell my team on mic that all are missing, watch out for gank or smoke gank or rosh.

It's always good to play safe and always have a contingency/worse case in your head. That's what separates an experienced player. Carrying TP is crucial at all times- all you need is 3 seconds and you're free- no matter where you are.

TP is a dedicated slot in my inventory at all times and I carry it 90% of the time.

I really only stop carrying a TP when I am maxed on items.

This has won me several games. 60 minutes in, and I see their main carry across the map 6-slotted with no TP, and I urge my team to push the T3 and barracks. Most of the time, there is something you can drop or put in stash. If you are that far into the game, you should never leave your own base without a TP or Boots of Travel.

Boots of travel guys.

Sometimes you don't need it, but if you do, it's worth getting it even before your fifth item. On the one hand, that last item may be crucial to your teamfight, but if you can't even get to the teamfight, it's a bit worthless.

There are few heroes I would "rush" boots of travel on though. If I have the item slow (which I usually do, unless I am maxed out), that extra slot can hold my TP OR an Aegis if we Rosh.

And at that point, build up items won't be as effective as early game, because the extra stats won't matter as much.

Question: is Chen picked up every competitive game? I don't follow the Dota 2 scene nearly as much as the HoN scene and Ophelia (Chen clone) is either banned or picked every single game.

Chen is still picked a formidable hero. Not a top ban/pick material. They're busy banning/picking top shelf heroes like Bat, Disruptor, etc...

Bolded for emphasis. I've seen way too many players blow amazing opportunities for themselves to punish over aggression because they don't carry tps. That 135g will more than pay for itself by either netting you a kill or saving your life.

Good advice; I'll have to remember to start doing this.

The only one I can think of is Tinker. PL does well with BoT, but it's nowhere near rush-worthy. Most heroes I wouldn't even think of getting BoT unless you already had 4 core/luxury items (+1 for TP and 1 for boots)

Yeah, I don't mind BoT as a luxury item, but it is not worth it until you can afford one OR your team is in a situation where you need it. I have seen a few matches where 3 members have sold items to buy BoT because they had a racks down with creeps at the shrine. But it was a base race. They all 3 immediately bought back, sold items, got BoT, and went into the enemy base.
