One particular sequence, with the fusion of the elements, the super nova, the resultant fusion of the higher elements, the development of the quasar (the stars shining in it, with the music), and the black hole, is one, is probably the most beautiful pieces of computer animation I've ever seen.

more amazing considering the animation was simply an extrapolation from real pictures taken by hubble.. :)

Awesome video. The Youtube player only listed 360p and 480p but a quick check on DownloadHelper revealed a 720p option as well. :)

Anyone know of any longer videos in a similar vein? Hell, I wouldn't mind watching an hourlong version of 'Big Bang -> The world as we know it today' in even more detail.

Anyone else get kind of bummed by the fact that we're all going to be dead long before our species has the ability to explore the universe, find answers to the origin of our existence, discover other intelligent life, etc.?

Hopefully we'll have methods to extend life before I croak, lol.

Yea, I often vainly hope that once dead, you can just roam around the universe and see things. A few hundred years ago, we wouldn't have even known what we were missing.

Heh, people think I weird for thinking like this. I also get mad at the dark ages, because we would be 300+ more years advanced right now and probably be out there if it weren't for that period of time.
