Okay so... My room mates are really damn annoying and won't stop arguing over which cat would win in a fight. I've been hearing this POINTLESS debate for about a week now and its driving me crazy. Never have I been this close to suicide!

SO WE MUST KNOW ONCE AND FOR ALL - which cat would win in a fight?

TIGER
or
JAGUAR

^^ which one? I'm voting for #3.

Based on the video I saw of a jaguar killing an 8 foot anaconda, in water. I'm voting Jaguar. Pound for pound they are the strongest of the big cats

If i'm debating who wins a catfight...it certainly isn't going to be about actual cats. ;)

jaguars are faster, more agile, and have more muscle. tigers are beefier and have bigger bones.

i think the tiger would win.

Tigers (depending on which species) can grow to 8-1/2-10-1/2 feet long, and can weigh between 400 and almost 700 lbs. (these numbers are for the Siberian (amur) Tiger.
The Bengal, also no little pussycat, grows to about the same length, but only  weighs 400 to about 550 lbs.

The jaguar on the other hand (Panthera onca) largest cat in the Americas, grows to about 5-1/2 - 8 feet in length, but only weighs in at 100-250 lbs. The Cougar BTW, (Puma concolor) the largest cat in North America, only grows to about 3-1/2 to 5-1/2 feet in length, and weighs between 110 and 180 lbs.

While I'm sure the teeth and claws of the jaguar or cougar might be able to do some damage to a tiger, I suspect it would hardly be a match...and the tiger would have fresh pussy (cat) for dinner...

Tigers are far bigger, stronger, and arguably just as agile. Lions nor jags nor any other cat can really rival a tiger, except maybe a liger, which can get up to 900-1000 lbs.

I'd prefer togive two answers:

(1) Tiger ... no contest.

And perhaps more importantly:

(2) This is @#$%ing pointless and your room mates are idiots.

In the current tie between #1 and #3, if we add you to your roommates, you guys win by a landslide

Tiger
Jaguar are short burst of energy, low stamina fighters.
Jaguar catch prey with their fast speed.
They cannot hold out in a long drawn out fight.

That said, the tiger would have to catch the jaguar, which isn't going to happen :)

Upon further reading, now I'm not sure.
While the jaguar employs the deep-throat bite-and-suffocation technique typical among Panthera, it prefers a killing method unique amongst cats: it pierces directly through the temporal bones of the skull between the ears of prey (especially the Capybara) with its canine teeth, piercing the brain.

that has to hurt !

The tiger would take out the jaguar with one swipe.

And aren't leopards the strongest of the big cats relative to their size?

i thought jags were the strongest relative to their size? they're all muscle with no fat, right? This means nothing to me of course - im tired of my room mates bickering about this. It's almost as bad as "pirates versus ninjas"

My vote still stands with #3.

Vampires easily beat Zombies.
Robocop can beat a Terminator.
Pirates beat Ninjas.
Polar Bear and Crocodile wind up being buddies and just chilling and having a beer together.
Coke beats Bruce Lee.

meh ....
