The Uber Keyboard

wow, that's crazy! it looks very sleek. i bet this sells at a high price--if and when it actually hits retail channels--since logitech can charge over $100 for that di-novo wireless keyboard + seperate 10-key thing.

i can't imagine this is going to be cheap to produce, but if it ends up coming in at a good price, i'd definitely consider it. definitely a cool idea!

The Quake screenshot is wrong... You've gotta use E,D,S,F for up, down, left, right, respectively, and A for run, so your finger isn't on shift, and you can change to the guantlet more quickly. 😛

YES!

Why does everyone think that WASD is the best for gaming? Clearly ESDF is far superior. WASD is gay.

There have been several "display keyboards" mention on engadget.com since. The problem is that there is a patent that will complicate things if this keyboard ever goes into production (Search engadget).

I want one...even if it is 100$ USD I will pay for it. Is this thing just concept or real?

Several threads on this keyboard already.

EDIT: here's a few

Maybe Andy could implement a little script that scans for that URL and automatically pops up a message. It could either be informative, in that it is likely already posted, or else the popup could just say make the assumption right away, and simply say "REPOST!"
🙂

I think we'll be seeing a lot more posts about this keyboard.

I know it's going to be at least $200 (which means I'll get raped for being Canadian).

I can't spend more than $20 bucks on a keyboard, as I'm the type of person that bashes the keyboard in when the computer doesn't want to work properly.

Have had that under better control, though, just because I want to get rid of this damn HP keyboard 🙁

That keyboard is awesome. Too bad I keep the keyboard drawer closed up under the desk, so I never really look at my keyboard.

I can't wait to buy one. Even for $200 I would buy one. Anyone doing design would love this keyboard. So many shortcuts in design software it's hard to remember them all that many of us use paper shortcut maps which come with the software. Still once you get production level proficient with the apps you dont really need a shortcut map anymore but still, great to have it built into a keyboard. You could flip through different apps and have different key maps show up on switching. Same for games, languages, etc (my g/f uses a french keyboard layout which is slightly different then american eng).

Honestly even if it wasn't very useful I would buy one for the coolness factor 😛

p.s. notice the picture examples are all mac based.
p.p.s. I wonder how durable these things would be. Would be pretty upset to know the OLED's start to have problems from all that mashing 2 months later on an expensive keyboard. There's no base unpowered image from what I can tell either if the OLED or power goes so you will just see blank keys.

So.... where can i buy one?

According to their answer page:
It?s in the initial stage of production.

We hope it will be released in 2006.

This gives me a bit of chub:
It will be OS-independent (at least it?s going to be able to work in some default state with any OS).
It will be an open-source keyboard, SDK will be available.

In Soviet Russia, keyboards buy you.
