The truth behind the Silverado HSF!! NOT as good as the reviews say it is.

Hey guys I have 2 of the Silverado's w/AS2. One on the 1.1ghz and one on a Duron 750@900. My temps are nowhere near that of what it was rated for (37C). At idle right now my temp is 44C with Duron 900, voltage @ 1.6. I wish it did cool it down better but it doesn't, and also they miss lead people a little bit.

At Toms review they said it's slient, true but only on 6v, @ 8v you can hear it sliently and @ 12v you can definally hear it. At least for me, I had 1-2C drop from going 6v to 12v. I dunno maybe it's the mobo reader telling me the wrong temps or something. I get better results by turning my case fans on high than setting it to 12v, also I have good case cooling so this is not the issue.

I dunno, maybe it was tested in a room with 60F or something, only way I can see it being that cool. Granted my room is @ 80F most the time but that should change the temp that much. Now I'm not saying it's a bad cooler, but for hardcore o/c'ers I wouldn't recommend it as it's expensive and there are better cooling hsf's out there. But for those who like to o/c but also like quite computers this is an awesome hsf, even though it is a bit hyped.

Pretty tought to beat the Taisol CGK760092, unless you want to spend twice the money and get a Swiftech. :Q

The defining performance of a heatsink is the temperature rise above AMBIENT temperature. You say your room is at 80F, drop the temperature of the room and the CPU temperature will drop an equal amount.

This is very basic physics.

Thats too bad about the Silverado's, I kinda figured they weren't as good as they were proclaimed to be when they dropped off the forum's for several weeks. I figured people that were getting them weren't happy with them so they were being quiet about them.

I sure wish I had those fans though just to see how they perform on difference sinks.........;)

Nevin is quite right- if they tested in 60F, and ur @ 80F, the temps will be considerably different (~20F, as Nevin stated).

umm... you switched from C's to F's halfway through, at least leave it in one or the other

Well dont waste your change on MC642 A either.. many times harder to install and very little performance boost.. IMHO We have to remember that lots of those sites hype products, and Toms hardware is in Germany, where its hot when the temps get over 70F .. If you really have problems with heat go for water cooling or get a CPU that runs cooler at the desired speed. Overclocking has its price one way or another you pay to get the desired speed of your processor.
