Yep I third that. Shims unless perfectly flat. Will not do much to help cool. SOme sand paper would do wonders though. This is why I made my own shim, Dremils rule

I think im still gonna try and make a shim for my 800 duron.

IMO, while probably biased, as long as the spacer is close(few thousandths) to the height of the die, without going over the height of the die, it will not crush the die.

I know i've mashed on mine before with my spacers installed, and didn't crush, or even chip the cpu.
