Ok, 2 tbsp of Barlean's Forti-Flax (ground flaxseeds) contains 3000 mg of Omega-3 and 1000 mg of Omega-6 fatty acids. The whole nutrition content label is here: http://www.barleans.com/nutrition/fortiflax.html

That is a lot less than the stuff I take.

GNC Flax Seed Oil
1 Tbsp (15ml)
7700mg Alpha Linoleic Acid (omega-3)
2170mg Linoleic Acid (omega-6)
2240mg Oleic Acid (omega-9)

The taste takes a while to get used to but it isn't bad.

Of course it's less, you are taking straight oil, this is ground flaxseed. They both offer different nutritional profiles, the oil is primarily fatty acids while the seeds give you vitamins, minerals, protein (good amino acid profile), and fiber.

They're both good products, I'm not disagreeing with you. I take the oil in gelcaps myself. I wouldn't give that to a 6 year old, though. I think the flaxseed's better for little kids.

Ya, here's what I was remembering. Something like you need 8000mg of O-3's to get good stuff & I can't remember how much of the rest, but I just like the convenience of the softgel tabs.

So, then we all buy these softgel supplements at the store & don't realize we're only getting like 1/8 of what we really need???? Why would the mfgrs even put out such a small dose?? (If that's actually the case).

I really wish I could remember where I saw how much they say we need. 😕

Ummm, I don't get it, what's your point?

I think Rossman mis read your first post and thought you were saying he reposted something...that or Rossman just tried to be funny and failed miserably, or maybe he's just a stoopid head...derrrr.

Supposedly to get the Omega 3 fatty acids from foods we otherwise wouldn't eat.

There are strong showings regarding several facets of why we need the stuff.

Coincidently, there are also benefits to many digestive issues that people have in the 21st century with all the processed crap we eat. Flax, Fish a lot of these oils contribute to better digestion as well.........(errrrr or should I say "defacation"?)

It would appear that there's also a not so delicate balance between Omega 3, 6 and 9 that modern America has sloped all the way to the bad side resulting in a rather large deficit of Omega 3 acids.

Seeing as I am personally witnessing and experiencing a lot of these things even in my own personal life, I would highly recommend that people at least look at them.

They're called SUPPLEMENTS because they're supposed to supplement the diet, not completely replace eating the right foods. A handful of vitamins and fast food does not make a healthy diet.

better be careful with flaxseed oil... barry bonds rubbed some on his ass and now his head is obstructing aircraft

LOL this has been known for a while. Hence why flax has come down in price compared to fish oil. Personally I take both for weight lifting reasons. 🙂

What would you like to know?

I just started taking flaxseed oil as a source of omega3, but apparently there is now research suggesting that flaxseed oil may increase the risk of prostate cancer:

Study Results

It was suggested that fish oil be used instead, but as others have pointed out, the number of pills you need to take to get the benefits is ridiculous.
