Economy class laser printers - do they overheat and slow down on big print jobs?

I read a user's review about the HP 1012 and his experience with his and HP's tech support confirmed that his 1012 slowed to a crawl due to overheating, "..typical of economy laser printers" says HP tech support.

Does your experience support this and if so with Brother or Samsung?

I don't know what you are considering "big" print jobs but I have printed off 100-150 pages off my brother HL-1440 before and have had no problem.

I took a look at HP's diagram for the 1012 and I think I see what the problem is. The thing looks like it lacks a cooling fan. It doesn't look like it has any grille vents that are indicative of the presence of a fan.

I've got 2 lasers and they both have cooling fans. I speculate that if you get a printer with a cooling fan, you'll be alright.

We have had the Brother 1440N for four cartriges now or about 12000 pages with no problems. No streaks no slow downs. I think it was $220 or there abouts.

They make a regular 1440 which I've seen as low as $120.

I have an HP LaserJet 1012 and I printed about 300 pages in one evening. There was no slowdown as a result of heat.

My problem was its puny 8MB of memory. I was sending 300 DPI TIF images to it, and the buffer was full all the time. The printer had to stop and wait for the image to be sent to the printer. It kinda wrecked the speediness of the printer! But, that's what I get for sending 10MB files over and over.

This printer is perfect for the usual print jobs. A multi-page Word document or webpage print quickly.

Dunno...

Lexmark E210. Has printed entire server manuals, on the order of 1000-1500 pages, sometimes in full (sitting there and feeding it), sometimes in 200-300 page chunks, never a problem. It was $100 brand new.
