I ve been using ME since 1999, when I stated to build computers, I upgrade 4 chipset Kt 133a, kt266a,kt333, nforce2 without any problem, but I think ATI is not making drivers for the for 98/ME anymore so I m force to upgrade to XP ( I dont really care).....

Can someone explain to me if i install XP pro now, and the next year upgrade will be the same......and if the OEM and retail pkg.....

Thanks a bunch

Yes CAT4.3 is the last ME driver from ATI.

XP is way better than ME though.

As far as upgrading from XP in the future, that's pretty hazy at the moment. 😀

Hell, upgrade from ME. Use 2000, use XP, use the strangest variety of Linux that you can find, even consider using 98. ME should never have been released and it's a pile of horse manure.

If I understand your original question correctly you are concerned about what happens when you are running XP and upgrade your hardware?

If I've got this right then you shouldn't really have any problems. Uninstall antivirus, CD Burning software and any backup software that uses filter drivers and/or an open file manager. Then simply run an inplace upgrade / repair install to let your OS rebuild for your new hardware. It will keep all your data and programs.

No one likes change, but I'm guessing you will be much happier with XP over ME.

lol ME since 1999 .... welcome to the non blue screen OSs ... and welcome to the year 2004.

I think you will find your stay with Xp or even 2k much more stable and pleasent then that POS ME.
