The trouble with Meece and Keyboard in XP Pro

Hi,

I have had repetitive, drive me nuts problems in when simply trying to logon using keyboard or to use mouse once in Windows Xp Pro for a while now.. and thought I would seek help here. Usually.. I just disable or enable something like legacy usb support in bios.. or uninstall and let windblows re-install keyboard or mouse in devmgmt.

Very annoying to go to sign in.. and keyboard won't work and/or once signed in mouse won't work. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I have had these problems most recently with Asus A8R32-MVP and yes I have googled for help..

What might be causing this problem? I do not have this problem with my mice or keyboard in linux.

How can I fix and.. avoid having this problem in the future?

Can anyone shed some light on anything I might want to avoid that might be causing me these problems or a setting or patch or whatever that will provide a good lasting fix to this problem?

Look in Windows Device Manager for any indication of trouble with the drivers?

Update the drivers?

Where you have an option to let either Windows or the mouse/keyboard companies' software control those devices, as an experiment choose (at least temporarily) to let Windows manage the devices.

I just disable or enable something like legacy usb support in bios

Well that sounds like you're toggling the setting back & forth.
Just enable USB support for keyboard & mouse in bios, and leave it that way.

If it is a USB connection - try using a different port. USB sometimes goes in and out or off and on if you have several devices. That can indicate a power insufficiency. Disabling legacyUSB support could help.

What kind of mouse? brand, wired/wireless? batteries?

Has this always happened? If not, what changed?

In my experience, the bios kb/mouse legacy setting doesn't have any affect in Windows - only bios.

If using the mouse manufacturer's driver, try removing it - if not, try installing it.

Same problem with another kbd?

Does it work if moved to a different usb port without rebooting?
