Has anyone seen this? That French animated film. RottenTomatoes has it at 94%. If you've seen it, what did you think of it? I'd guess it's only enjoying a limited American release, judging by the fact that it's only playing here in Houston at one artsy/geeky theatre (River Oaks, anyone?).

I saw the trailer just recently, so I guess I'm pretty behind the times on it, even for the US, but it looked really interesting. Is it spectacular enough to take an animation major to?

I haven't seen it yet (it hasn't appeared in my area), but I've heard that it's pretty much a film designed to take animation majors to.

I'm planning to check it out as soon as it's in Atlanta (Feb 22nd I think). Looks pretty interesting, plus it's about a guy training for the Tour de France. :D

Triplets of Belleville is being released much wider this Friday. Check your local theatres showtimes, it should be there. Whatever local theatres that play the "art" films should have this.

I really want to see it, but the local theatres don't show stuff like that. Thought about getting the DVD (it just came out in France), but it doesn't have English subtitles. Argh. Guess I'll just wait till we get a Region 1 DVD.

The trailer is awesome. (LINK) I love the music.

From one of the reviews?
Apparently very little if any.

So I hear. It sounds really, really interesting. I'm kind of glad to hear it's being more widely released, not that we have a lot of non-mainstream theatres around anyway. :p

I wonder if any ATOTer has actually seen it..!

I saw the movie. :p

Yes, the animation was made with very little speech. Any speech they had was brief (a word here and there) and in French or English. The way the creators drew the characters is very bizarre from what we Americans are used to here. Personally, I didn't like it but it received great reviews and is up for best Animation. I think what fascinated everyone about this film was its ability to tell a story without the use of speech and critics tend to rave over new style of cinematography.

It was just slightly above average IMO. Artsy fartsy animation. Worth a watch, not a DVD purchase.

If you can rent the DVD for $1 or less, go for it. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

Saw it.. Was brilliant but not on a plot level.... It's very weird, kinda looney, a little creepy.. Kinda like a good David Lynch movie... Not for mass consumption but that doesn't make it bad... check it out, it's better than most of the crap out there.. (i saw a bootleg dvd of it.. now that it's getting a wide release I'm going to smoke up and check it out in the multiplexes)
