The trend isn't going away: WHEN will applications finally learn that "CLOSE" means "CLOSE" and not "Return to tray"?!

It annoyed me from day one. ICQ. There should be a "Minimize to Tray" option, not a frickin' "Close me twice" feature. When Napster and all the filesharing applications wanted to force you to continue sharing and contributing, they all forced this feature on us. Now anything and everything messenger or P2P-related will absolutely have no option to disable this. It serves no function. It doesn't prevent you from accidentally closing it because that's what the PREVIOUS industry standard was for ("Closing the application will disconnect you from the service. Are you sure...?"). Alternatively, an option to minimize only to the tray should be OPTIONAL, and not forced. A seperate button for "Minimize to Tray" is obviously the way to go.

When developers QUIT copying eachother and people figure this out?!

I decided not to read your paragraph

Oh and when will the learn? Who knows, possibly when people stop saying "the internet is broke"
