I watched my favorite film, Braveheart, on DVD over the weekend and watched the trailer (32MB) on the disc again. Even after 8 years, this trailer give me goose bumps every single time I watch it. I'm a big fan of trailers, even for crappy movies, and this is definitely my favorite.

Something I don't get in the actual movie. He has sex with his wife...wife dies. He goes to war. Princess comes. He has sex with princess. He dies.

Why does he have sex with princess?

Why does he have sex with princess?

Why not?

BTW, don't for a minute think this is real history. About the only accurate historical facts in this movie are: there was a William Wallace, he was a Scot, and he led a fight to free Scotland. Nothing beyond that is factual.

Why does he have sex with princess?

To screw over Longshanks and his son (her husband)? She tells Longshanks that she's carrying Wallace's child when he (Longshanks) is on his deathbed.

No I think the battles happened at the places that they described, maybe not excatly how they had it in the movie, but the battle did happen

Well, he was really executed in a similar manner as depicted at the end of the movie. But yeah, the movie isn't exactly faithful to history. It's still a great movie though.

EDIT: SilverTorch is more or less correct about the battles as I recall. Bannockburn (mentioned at the end of the movie) was a major battle where Edward II got his ass handed to him by Robert the Bruce. Not sure if that really was THE final battle that won their independence, though.

Yeah, in real life Robert the Bruce didn't betray Wallace as portrayed in the film. He was actually at the battle of Stirling with a few hundred horse or something. But yeah, it's an incredible film that based on history, it's not a history lesson.

He clearly states in the movie that he sees much of Marian (is that her name?) in the princess. It also helps that she is unbelievably gorgeous (imo).

Murron. At first it bothered me that he slept with Isabelle too, but I guess I just got over it. It sure was a good move politically at any rate...
