Apparently so, and it looks like it is exempt from licensing fees, too (no tags).

I have lived in California my whole life and Southern California since 1986 and I never knew this.

Did anyone else know this?

(How do I rotate these?)

when you make a post complaining or asking about something the readers of that thread should not have to turn to google to figure out WTF you are talking about. YOU should be providing all of that information to us in the OP

I do not want people who do not know what the Tournament of Roses is to comment in the thread anyway, so it kinda works out.

No one watches the Rose Parade? They talk about the "Tournament of Roses" about 4,000 times during the parade.

Wow.

I found this http://nickkanaya.net/SAMPLE-CA2.html (scroll to bottom)

Doesn't indicate wether it is exempt from licensing though. It does seem to imply that these are only used during the parade though, so I wonder if that plate is not supposed to be used any other time (which would make no licensing fee reasonable).

I'm sure they're a "qualified non-profit organization" which should make them exempt from many licensing fees, but I didn't realize they could also get personalized plates exempted. Since they're not a "government agency," they don't get "E" plates.

edit...good find. Explains part of it. I suppose they're piggy-backing on the "parade vehicle" part of that.

well, as per the actual topic of the thread:
I had no idea they had their own plates.
But what is, exactly, they? The officials? Management or something?

As for the Tournament of Roses...
how the hell does anybody who remotely knows about college football, not know what the ToR is?
Then again, I guess it kind of makes sense... the Rose Bowl has essentially stood as a Big Ten v. Pac 10 matchup, so if you care not for either of those divisions, you know of the Rose Bowl simply because it is talked about ... and may perhaps watch it if big teams are facing each other, but I guess it stops there.

Rose Bowl, for us here in Ohio... I imagine there are even quite a few loons who, if prompted with Tournament of Roses, would probably look at you with blank, dull eyes... but I doubt they are anything but a small minority.

I realize this is quite a while after the original post, but I thought I'd add this information for clarification.

Each year, Honda (or whichever auto manufacturer is the official sponsor that year) delivers a large fleet of vehicles for use by Tournament of Roses officials and select volunteers. They are delivered in late November or early December, and are returned in early January. As the vehicles are only for "official" T of R business, you will usually only see them in or near Pasadena.
