The top rate of tax is 68%, with the basic rate starting at 42%.

i love how they talk about all of the crap that the Danes get for "free"

it sure as hell isnt free when youre paying 68 cents out of every dollar

me either, hell thier health care and social services alone make it worth the high taxes. if you add my health insurance to my taxes I'm hitting near 35-40% of paycheck right there.

In return for these high taxes, the Danes receive a wide range of governmental benefits, including free health care, free higher education and an extensive social services

so, how is it free?

68% is not much worse than it is here if you think about it.

Denmark highest tax bracket 68%. But that includes health insurance, education and a lot of other things.

Here the highest tax bracket is what 35%?

Tax 35%
Social security tax 7.5%
Highest state income tax rate 9.5%

Thats 52% right there and then you have to include all the other taxes we pay here like property taxes, sales taxes, car taxes, tolls on roads, you get the picture.

Then to top that off health care and education is not included like it is in Denmark. And were looking pretty close to Denmark in taxes paid sans the services.

Well, once they've taken all of your money. They could at least throw in free beer, couldn't they? 😕 I guess that might bankrupt them...

35% is the tax rate before deductions. What it ends up at depends on how good the accountant is.

At least they're spending money on their own citizens. US just throws money away to other countries.

Whose to say Denmark doesnt have deductions to?

I don't but I do know that the 68% tax is just their income tax. Here:

http://www.skat.dk/foreign/english/1856.html

It says that tax revenue is about 50% of GDP. In the US the number seems to be about 35%

http://www.cepr.net/Latin_American_taxes.htm

So the tax burden in denmark is 15% more.

15% more tax burden for universal health care & post secondary sounds pretty good to me.

Yeah, they don't get stuff for free. WE(the U.S.) get stuff for free, or at least receive a heavy discount, as we currently don't pay as we go.

You forgot health insurance, 'higher education', unemployment, retirement etc.

It's not all that much more than the average person here pays, if it is at all.
