The Tonight Show - Leno or O'Brian?

Who should take that post? Supposedly Leno was to step down in 2009 because he's leaving NBC then, and change the sign from Tonight Show with Jay Leno to Conan O'Brian.

Leno is better at doing the Tonight Show, Conan is better at doing the Conan O'Brien show. Leno's monologue and humor is slightly more sophisticated while Conan has animals that poop on others..I'm not too sure how that'll translate over.

It's like trying to make a relationship out of the crazy party girl--it's just asking for trouble.

Conan's show is funnier than Leno's, but he'd be under pressure to change the show in a new timeslot, and then change some more when the ratings don't match Leno.

And I agree that Conan could still get left out on this one. Promising him the Tonight Show a full 5 years in advance was weird at the time, and it's pretty clear that they were just delaying the inevitable (and if you're cynical, it was an empty promise designed to string Conan along for a few years). One of the two is going to walk in 2009. There will be a lot of people at NBC who'll want to stick with Leno, his show is the established #1 in the timeslot and is a cash cow, there's no transition to make, and they're probably paranoid that Leno will beat them in the ratings if he goes to Fox or ABC.

I haven't watched Leno much but I really enjoy Conan's show. I think he's fscking hilarious... yeah he's a dork but he seems down-to-earth and just a nice, regular guy. I just dig his humor.

I cannot for the life of me understand the appeal of Jay Leno. His monologue is terribly stale, his interviews consist of him telling celebrities how great they are, and that's pretty much the whole show.

On the occasions when I do actually see it, the headlines are the bright spot. But anyone could do those.

i used to watch leno as a kid. i dont understand how it appealed to me back then. right now, on a scale of 0-10, conan is 11 and leno is -3

You watch the Tonight show for the guests.
You watch the Conan O'Brian show for the host.

Conan wouldn't seem to appeal to the same demographic as leno. Letterman seems to have most of conan's demographic during that slot. I like conan's show a lot more but I don't know if it will be successful with him in the tonight show slot.

Leno can give good interviews. He just usually doesn't care enough about the guest. He also can pull off the openly mocking you but in a way you don't mind better than anyone else.

I like the way Jimmy Kimmel makes fun of his guests, a la Paris Hilton. Conan's alright, but sometimes his antics are too cliche. Leno has more intelligent humour, which I like, but his show is pretty much over after the guest appearances.

Leno said last year on his show that when he leaves the job is Conans.

i will stop watching The Tonight Show, i cant stand Conan, his humor just isnt my taste.

conan = hilarious. he's never gotten cliche or old, in my opinion. he's funny consistantly, unlike fad comedians like dane cook.
