The celeron is deliberately crippled and as the clock speeds are pushed up, against the Duron the celeron is suffering. A celeron overclocked on 100MHz FSB to 900 will benchmark like a Duron 650.
The longer Intel insists on selling the celeron for more than VERY cheap, the bigger AMD is going to get. Intel's brand name counts for little loyalty now we have such a choice. Intel is just SOOO complacent. The days of disabling parts of their chips to sell cheaper are gone.
When P4 comes out at turn of the year, they might as well drop the celeron completely and slash the PIII prices. The celeron will soon deserve to command a price no higher than Cyrix chips- I don't think Intel like that kind of margin.
