i just went from a 1500 sq foot house to an 800 sq ft apartment. its not horrible because it is a lot easier to clean and work in, but its also not a place where you want a lot of people over to kick it.

but the biggest thing i miss is a garage. all my tools are in storage. i cant work on anything... sucks...

Four of us lived for a bit over 7 weeks in the boat pictured in my sig. It's 22 feet long. I think I could live anywhere.

The bad thing about a tiny house vs an apartment is the utilities. You end up paying a lot more for heat and AC because a small house has so much more outside surface area relative to its volume.

Tiny house movement? I don't care how small the house is, I'd never want to pass a house!

I just googled tumblweed houses...and that is the most retarded thing I think I've seen in years.

Could I downgrade from a 1800sqFt 3/2.5 house to say a 700sqFt 1/1? Sure, but that's about my limit before I feel cramped.

i dont care about square footage, i just want acres and acres. like 100.

Same although I could probably do with slightly less than 100 acres. I've toyed with buying the land and parking a single wide or RV on it. My current house is only around 900sq-ft so it wouldn't be a huge change to a single wide. I would need a garage though.

If you're gonna build a garage on your 100 acres you might as well put an apartment on it instead of living in a trailer.

Yup, I'm going to sell my 50 acres and my 3,000 s/f house on it to go live in a cramped city in a 400 s/f shack that resembles a brick shit house stacked in a row of a zillion other 400 s/f shacks. Yeah, that's gonna happen.

Yeah exactly. I don't care much about house, but I won't go anywhere near a city. We are bailing on suburbia for the countryside now. I grew up out in the country.

I don't get how people can live in such close proximity to others.

You get used to it.

I sure as hell didn't. I lived in apartments through college, and have been in a house in suburbia for the last 4 years. It all sucks a big one compared to having your own land without anyone telling you what you can and can't do on it.

imo 1200-1600sq' is a fine size for a family. Can easily have 4-6 people in a home that size. FAR more important is to have a decent sized lot...say at LEAST 75'x75'ish (and honestly I think 100'x100'ish is my own low end). That's assuming we're talking about in a city. Once you get outside the city proper then I think we need to start talking acres, not feet.

It all depends on your needs/wants.

Currently live in a sub 200 sqft apartment with no bathroom. (Bathroom is in a room next to my apartment)

We have 1800sq ft + basement for us and it's just about my ideal size (it it were arranged better -It seems I need a workshop area and tool storage area so either a larger garage or a more accessable basement would be nice.) We have frequent guests so it's not all that uncommon for the guest bedroom and our couches to be full. Both my wife and I do a fair amount of work at home so the home office is nice. And one of these days my home theater will be complete so I can watch movies and listen to music without pissing off the neighbors

We've lived in much less for years but I like this much better...

I could live in a small place if I had a large external workshop.

I didn't used to care but now when I see a house with a nice external work shop I get all

It's kids that change it for me. I lived in a 800sq/ft little cape cod style home with a 2 year old while my place was being built. That would had been fine for me and my wife. But after a really long winter it was almost a prison with a toddler. She had no room to run. Even a few toys turned the living space into a destruction area. There was barely enough room to put in a small bistro set to eat at for dinner. Forget trying to have a family over to eat at the same table.

The kitchen was disconnected from the rest of living space and about 60 sq/ft in size so having more than one person in there was a disaster. So you felt like you were ignoring your family if you went in and cooked after you got home from work.

There was no room to run, throw a ball, stretch out, do a cartwheel, ect.

In my new place I've got a full open basement that we can ride bikes or scooters in. Play basketball. Play soccer. In the bedrooms you can actually have room for a decent sized bed and a dresser plus room to play on the floor. The kitchen is nice and open and flows into the main floor living area so you can cook dinner and socialize with friends and family.

We just live in the midwest where half the year it's below freezing and snow on the ground and the other half it's possible to be 85+ degrees and oppressingly muggy. Being able to have fairly active play inside is a nice perk.

I'll pass. I'm content with my 3000 square feet and 2/3's acre with woods and a creek.
