Bigboxes suggested that I consolidate my owl pics into one thread so here it is.

Couple number one have a nest down in town so I'll call it the town nest. They used the same nest last year and successfully fledged four chicks.

This is mama and she's legal so it's okay to ogle her.

This is dad and simply put, he's a doll baby. Just don't let him catch you ogling his main squeeze. Dad's pretty shy so you may not see any more pics of him in this thread. Time will tell.

Couple number two have a nest in the suburbs so I'll call it the suburb nest. This nest has been used by great horned owls almost every year for the past three decades. Of the seventeen years I've lived here, the nest has produced chicks sixteen years.

This is mom. She's a stay-at-home mom and stays on the nest pretty much full time. Mom thinks I suck.

This is dad. He hangs out in nearby trees and brings home the bacon, the rabbits, the lizards, the snakes, and anything else that fits in his talons.

Mom with both chicks at the town nest.

Two chicks, one nest at the suburb nest!
The suburb nest is huge with lots of places to hide chicks so I didn't spot the two chicks until the day before this photo was taken. The town chicks are a few days older than the suburb chicks which makes a big difference in their appearance.

Mom and baby at the town nest. The town nest is in a tree that died between last year's breeding season and this year so the nest is very exposed and hot (Tucson). Mom has to spend all day sheltering the chicks from the sun and heat.

Mom and chick at the suburb nest. The chicks had disappeared from view for a few days and mom was not sitting on the nest like she had been leading me to conclude that the chicks had died. Happily, it was a false alarms and the chicks reappeared.

Chicks at the town nest. Landscapers were using a leaf blower near the nest, chasing mom off and pissing off the chicks.

Yeah, you got a really cool collection there. I'm jealous and wish I had taken the pics.

I think the story that these pictures tell is the mum spies a creepster taking pics of her family, the young aren't really aware of you to begin with, but they all end up giving you stink-eye. Post 7's one is when one of the young realises what the others are saying about you and is in shock/agreement with the others. Post 6's shows the young thinking, "FFS, you again".

A crappy phone pic of the suburb nest. Mom and the two chicks are in view. The chicks are getting more adventurous moving around on the branches above the nest.

At the town nest, the chicks have the nest to themselves. Mom moved to a nearby tree to shade up. The older chick is losing it's fuzz.

The younger chick still has a ways to go even though the two chicks are only a day or two apart in age.

Meanwhile at the suburb nest, mom has the chicks hidden from the sun and heat (102F today).

At the town nest, one chick flew the coop and is shading up in a tree near the nest. It's not really fledged yet and is dependent on the parents for food and protection from predators and creepy guys with cameras.

The other chick is taking advantage of the extra room and sprawling out. In the pics below the chick is intently watching a roadrunner run off with a lizard.

That's it for now. During my morning walk I saw that all owls are accounted for at the suburb nest. I haven't checked the town nest yet today.
