Lets make a list of all the crap that needs to fixed or adjusted in Windows:

1. When you move or copy files with explorer it should continue even if there is an error with one file ( I really hate that it stops) !!!!

2. should be able to open new explorer window from right click menu (gopunk)

3. Apple's Expose

4. A better image preview window, at least make the images scroll with the wheel mouse.

5. Right Click select all ( in explorer for selecting files)

6. Emergency Repair Process

7. Better File Manager like File Finder in Mac OS X

8.

9.

10.

Heh, I'm not waiting around for 3 years for MS to release an OS that HOPEFULLY will fix most of the crap that's wrong with Windows. My OS X 10.3 Panther disk should be delivered on wednesday.

Be able to actually uninstall programs in safe mode when they toast your system. WTF is the point of safe mode if you can't uninstall stuff? DAMN YOU XP!

When moving a file it should copy it to memory first instead of just moving it. If an error occurs during transfer, the file is completely toast.

..so I've heard. I've never experienced this.

Longhorn is still in alpha and won't be out til 2006, there's plenty of time to fix or add features.

/dev directory, or a meaningful equivilant
Bootable logical volumes
More command-line system control (For a start, text-mode regedit and mmc)
SSH service included with OS or in resource kit
Ability to boot without GUI
Make everything that isn't needed to boot the OS an optional component
Restore the "Custom" installation option

When ALL of these conditions are met, who knows, I might consider switching, or at least dual-booting.

I want it to have spyware already installed.
I hate having to crawl all over the web to pick up that junk.

I want to Window's Media Player to stop being so darn user friendly.

It might also be nice to have working css by 2006 also.

It should have mouse gestures like Firebird or Opera. When hovering above the desktop, the user could be able to switch to another task by using the mouse gesture Rclick+scroll. Alt+tab is so old...

Ability to use themes.

Fast boot time.

Better integrated firewall and integrated anti-virus.

That's not going to happen. At least not the ant-virus part.

Easily my number 1, An official script or program that easily creates windows install CD's with all current hotfixes and service packs. Or at least a distro CD every 6 months-1 year that has the patches applied...perhaps as a part of the MSDN or technet.

firewall on by default, that blocks both inbound AND outbound traffic
built in keymap-hotkey editor, GUI interface.
defrag notification system (i love working on PC's that haven't been defragged since the 90s)
get rid of the unsafe USB device removal crap, it's plug in play damnit.
Some sort of directcd/inCD type application for recording CD's

One thing that irritates me are the dumb-a$s limitations in XP Home. Like not being able to join a domain. Dumb! And the only reason is so they can force corporate users to pay an extra $50-100 for the XP Pro license.

I also dislike the fact that when you join a computer to a domain you have to redo all your settings, My Documents, etc.
