it's better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody. i didn't really understand the ending though and my ex-gf kinda "convinced" me to see it... welp.

That movie really sucked. Does anybody else think Matt Damon is an awful actor?

I loved it; I think it portrayed part of the obsession that so many feel to be like, no matter the cost, people they look up to. I think Matt Damon did a good job, as did Philip Seymour Hoffman.

that movie was SO weird. i think that he is not gay. he is so into playing the role of another person that he himself doesn't know who he is anymore. he practically just morphs himself into anybody he needs to be at any given time that will get him what he wants. i didn't really like the movie overall.

there were a few things about the movie i liked. cinematography, the way they portrayed the lifestyle of the time, etc.

i heard they're making a sequel...hope they put more thought into the script if that's true...

Poor acting and same as the movie. The writer try to show a warp perception of reality with the over use of the artsy pointillism, which was too much for me to take. The identity crisis, and when pain/death that people inflicted upon each others with out knowing the consequences become a crime? Some thing I can?t figured out is the comparison (or can we forgive) between kill by passion, death/murder of Marry & unborn son, death/murder of a passioned/self loving man, and death/murder of an unfortunate friend. It make me think of the Biblical Death of Christ (death & water). Was it Herod or Pilate from the bible that wash his hand to Christ death, are they (Ripley & Dickie) just as guilty and as innocent as the Jew? And, did their death save Ripley, Dickie family & girl friend, and Marry family from the shame?

Maybe I'm reading way too much into this :Q

Matt Damon RULES! He kicked major arse in the movie before "Talented Mr Ripley". I'm not sure of the title right now. Damn I'm tired...

I don't know what you're talking about. Bad movie or not, Matt Damon is actually a pretty good actor.

He was excellent in Good Will Hunting.

I liked The Talented Mr. Ripley. Not really a movie I'd get a kick out of watching over and over again (too unsettling and somewhat gruesome), but it was well written/directed/acted and held my interest for the entire length. Matt Damon reminds me of Tom Cruise, kind of a one-dimensional actor but gives inspired performances. BTW, the latent homosexual theme was intentional. It was also present originally in the novel (I forget who wrote it).

I wanted to see it to see what all the fuss was about. Saw it, don't understand it, wish I hadn't seen it.

Really though, it was a decent movie, I can get into just about any movie that makes you think :)

I did like him in Good Will Hunting, but that's it. The cinematography in Ripley was good, but Damon ruined the movie. Also, I thought Rounders could have been really good if Damon hadn't been acting. Edward Norton should not have to work opposite people who act that bad. I think Damon could easily fit well in some of those cheesy movies these days, because that's how he acts.
