I just watched The Taking of Pelham 123 and John Travolta's character hijacked a train to make the price of stock fall and price of gold rise.

I'm not a day trader so I'm not really sure how that work. So can some one explain how gold and the stock market interact? can you just buy "shares" of gold like do you with stocks from a company, or you have to physically own a block of gold. Or this is just a B class movie with a plot hole that they just add to the climate to take up time?

Didn't watch the movie but traditionally the price of stock and gold are inversely proportional. When one goes up the other goes down, if i understand the plot properly then buying mutual funds in gold precious metal or something like that wont work, one has to buy physical gold.

It's company stock funds / "the stock market" that falls in response to threats, which also push up the price of gold.

But gold ETFs are designed to match up with the price of gold so no shiny bars needed.

Talking about inversely proportional. How can he be married and have sexy time with Kelly Preston and have gay hookups?
