See...that's why I posted this...you say you're 99% sure and I'm sure 99% of population is 99% sure it is too (uh.......ya...lol ;) ) but according to my Sociology book.............it's not! :)

It does say who...and they have the whole story behind it....but I'm sure someone here knows who and if it's really true.

Anyone?

Often attributed to Charles Darwin and, although it appears in his Origin of Species, it is there attributed to Herbert Spencer.

Alfred Russel Wallace? He also came up with a theory of evolution based on natural selection at the same time as Darwin, but Darwin published first. :Q

Don't know who coined it, but Darwin is a good guess. It is however one of the most abused quotes. Many people use it in terms of the strongest and most agrressive are the fittest and that aggression towards weaker is therefor justified. Also I have heard it used like "only the fittest of the fittest shall survive". This is bollocks as fitness is about the reproductive success and how many of your offspring that makes it to fertile age and breed (no wonder parents nag about wanting grandchildren ;)). Aggression is avoided in most animals, and when it is used it has mostly been reduced to showing off to prove who's the strongest.

wow, Darkwing Duck, haven't heard of him for a while.

man, what a bad show. They tried to take off from the success of Ducktales, and man, they just killed the role of LaunchPad in that show!

The actual story behind it (without actually re-typing the damn thing :) ) is that Herbet Spenceer applied Darwin's evolutionary model to the operation of human society. Spencer argued that society operates like a jungle, with the "fittest" people rising to wealth and power and the deficient gradually sinking into miserable poverty.
