Are you making the claim that the institution of Government, no matter how small, is eventually going to grow beyond its intended purpose?

I still haven't heard a good argument for what would replace government if we just woke up one day without it. What I mean is that if government lost its "fear factor" by force, then what is to stop the next fear factor by force from arising to take its place. Without some massive mind altering mental epiphany simultaneously infecting everyone at the same time the vacuum would soon fill with the very nastiness you despise. No?

Naturally.

Lord Acton: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Governments throughout history have seemingly moved towards corruption over a period of time, but in reality, governments just revert to their natural state. Governments don't become corrupt, they are corrupt. What changes is the government's willingness to keep on pretending that they aren't corrupt. In other words, the gloves come off. That's what's presently happening in the United States. The government didn't just become corrupt in the last few decades. It's always been corrupt. They just don't care to hide it anymore from the lowly peons.

Yes, there needs to be a philosophical and spiritual awakening. Without that, we'll just end up creating the same monster we created the last time.

The correct answer, though, is a truly free society. That is the only hope for humanity.
