Six years ago in college I was playing "Dark Reign" (old RTS game) with a bunch of friends at 2AM when one of them remarked that I was the only one using my first name as my player name. While waiting for the next game I changed it to "RedFox" (My first name is Russell, which means "Red Fox") At some point I added a "1" to it...I think it was a typo and I liked it for some reason. It's pretty much been my usual handle since then.
A couple weeks ago I was playing "Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory" as RedFox1. Out of nowhere, players start asking me about my "sister." I don't have a sister...so it was kind of odd...figured maybe it was some odd joke I hadn't heard, or they mistook me for someone else.
Then it happened on a couple other forums...people would start making odd posts in regards to me and "my sister." At this point I'm getting curious. Some strange comments...
Then, in the #ATOT chat room on the ATOT W.A.S.T.E. network the other night, somebody mentioned how "RedFox is the guy from the SomethingAwful forums." Ah ha! A lead.
So I join the SomethingAwful forums and start poking around. Turns out their "RedFox" was some sort of famous troll who was flamed into oblivion after he posted about his sisters underwear. Some of his threads there have 700+ posts.
Looks like their RedFox has only been famous for about a month. So maybe the interest will die down. On the other hand...maybe I should cook up a new handle.
Lately it's been like being "DennilFloss1" or "NoWhereMom1"
