Aluminum Chieftec AH-0l Case (Antec 660)
AMD Thoroughbred 2200+
Gigabyte 7vrx REV 1.1 (F3 Bios -- Latest)
Abit Siluro Geforce 4 TI 4400 (Latest nVidia Drivers)
Hercules Fortissimo II Digital Edition
Hercules XPS 510 Speakers
Maxtor 80 GB ATA 133 Liquid Ball Bearing Drive
Two 80 mm Antec 30 db/34 CFM Intake Fans
Antec 21 db/42 CFM rated Slot Fan (Exhaust)
Antec 80 mm 30 db// 34 CFM exhaust fan
Antec 80 mm 30/34 CFM CPU Fan
Thermalright AX-7 heatsink
Dlink NIC
40mm Extra GPU Fan

Whats up, I finally seem to have a stable setup however I would still appreciate any suggestions. For reference, during my last two attempts to post I locked up while sending the post request to the Anandtech server. Anyways, after an emotional installation of the AX-7 I was excited to see my new machine boot up and successful detected my processor. However, it did detect it at 733 mhz, which was odd but later it became 1800. Anyways, the installation of XP was going smoothly until I noticed some garbling on the screen, this suggested the Video Card was overheating. I completed the installation however and put a slot fan under my Geforce and attached a 40 mm fan on the other side of my GPU. I know had the Abit fan blowing down onto my Geforce GPU as well as the 40 mm fan blowing down on the other side of the PCB. I quickly, noticed however after booting into Windows stability problems. I kept locking up, temps were high but not too high. 40 centigrade for the case and 52 for the CPU during normal use. I was frustrated however with how instable my Computer was. I went on the AMDMB forums and noticed many people talking about raising the VCORE voltage. Gigabyte was reporting that my VCORE was at 1.63 volts while AMD rates the 2200+ at 1.65. I upped it 5% to 1.68. Right now, my computer seems stable however my temps are 59 for my CPU and 45 for my case. I am going to buy at more powerful CPU fan however, does anybody else have any tips or suggestions on improving stability. People with specific suggestions for the 7vrx/Athlon XP/Geforce 4 combo will be greatly appreaciate. Thanks

Sounds like that HSF isn't touching the CPU right. I'd take it off and be sure there's a thin layer of thermal compound on there and that it is touching the core properly. Thats aweful hot for a AX7 and a Tbred...

Your case temps are extremely high. What is your room temperature? My case is usually around 30 C and that is with 2 other computers in a very small room.

Thanks for the comments, I forgot to mention. I did remove my heatsink and reinstall it because I feared I put too much compound (Antec Silver Reference). I am pretty sure the CPU is touching the heatsink correctly and I know for a fact that the layer of compound is thin enough but not too thin. Any other suggestions to reduce temps? Does this board read temps high? It is recommended by AMD for the 2200+ (suggests internal diode although Anand said it does not) and members of AMDMB forums get similar temperatures. Thanks, keep the comments coming

the Gigabyte DOES NTO READ from the internal diode.

As evidenced by your 14C spread from System and CPU temps. True diode readings usually start aroudn 20C over case temp and go up, depending greatly on heatsink and grease type.
