Credit crisis and subprime problems. You're not alone in this, that's why people that play stocks should be able to ride things out. The entire US is taking a hit...
The US stock market is making a lot of people sad. Then there are traders who make money on all the ups and downs.
Investors are skittish people, and they are scared of the big, bad boogeyman that they think is looming over the US economy (the largest in the world, incidentally): the dreaded "R" word -- recession.
Hopefully there will be some good economic news at some point, or perhaps the election will turn things around toward the end of the year. Good news for homebuyers in the near future: Wall Street is expecting a 0.50% rate cut from the Fed at the end of the month. Get your 30 year fixed rate mortgage after that!

according to this information, there is an obvious cycle associated with elections of US presidients
I've lost so much money. At least a lot in my opinion. I guess at this point I become a bag holder and ride out this horrible market till it recovers...ugh, I've never lost this much money. It's actually funny and really scary. Damn stocks.

Depends on how much volatility there is along the way. Slow selloffs are the most lethal, eg. AMD, but sharp ones offer lots of short term peaks and valleys to potentially profit from, such as what happened a lot today with many stocks.
This is why ive thrown my money into ETFs and overseas. I cant be bother with checking individual stocks, it drives me nuts.

You could sell 1/2 of them if you're not sure, depends on what your purpose for holding them is. Everyone who owns shares would like to see the market go up, but if you hold shares you're actually 'placing the bet' that it will. Is that what you want to do with this money? No reason to look at it any differently than cash imo, unless you want to be an investor in those companies.

rimm dropped about 17 this week.
I wonder if next week will be a rebound or continued plum. I wanna buy some and hope its a rebound to offset some of the losses in day-trading. someone tell me for sure ...

It's insane what's going on right now. There was an article the other day about how out of thousands of mutual funds invested in US stocks, only one fund is positive for the year (and after this week, I bet that's no longer the case). Even quality companies have PE ratios under 10 now. I wonder where the bottom is, hopefully it isn't much lower.
