Agreed. I am still relising the PC gaming genius in Starcraft, Master of Orion, Master of Magic, X-COM: UFO Defense, Daggerfall, Pirates! Gold....

I haven't been able to get too into any recent games. Maybe Gothic...

the last two games i played thru on pc were Max Payne and Medal of Honor Allied assault,these were both great fun...im certainly not implying there are no exceptions to the rule...but it just seems like the market is really cookie cutter right now.

Freedom Force rocked the casbah this year... that was the only original game that I truly enjoyed on the PC this year. GTA III was the other, but of course that isn't native to the PC.

diablo 2 came out in 2000.
after beating it and playing some of nightmare,i lost interest in the click fest.
warcraft 3 was decent...competent,but there was just something about it that didnt click with me.
Love Simcity,always Hated the sims.
Medal of Honor was exceptional.
UT2003?I played it when it was called quake3.

Yep, Freedom Force was very good and original. Highly recommend anyone who hasn't played it to check it out.

The two No One Lives Forever games are great single player experiences and hugely underrated in my opinion.

Too bad the commies are censoring it.

Anywho, I think it's all a problem of us not really being able to be wowed anymore. I remember back in the day when playing a game was amazing. Now a days everything seems so bland...

Warcraft III is/was amazing. For some reason anything that Blizzard makes I know I will like.

I still love 2d games and they will always be my favorite. GBA Metroid was great.. too bad they wont be making more like it.

Yeah that's a good point. There seem to be fewer and fewer games that attempt to strike off on their own path, most are just bigger and badder iterations of tried and true gaming concepts. I think part of it stems from the fact that publishers are less willing to take risks and only want to back games that use concepts that have been proven. Sad though because it doesn't allow developers to innovate and use their creative abilities to their fullest, and we end up seeing mostly the same stuff rehashed and disguised in better graphics.

Freedom Force was pretty good, for single player. For multiplayer check out Natural Selection. This is by far the best Half-life mod. I like it better than the CS that took up way too much of my life. It actually requires strategy and teamwork. It like a cross between Starcraft and Quake. The learning curve is pretty steep - don't expect those leet CS AWP skills to translate into dominence in NS. If you're going to play, please read the strategy guides in the forums first, it'll save alot of frustration an "llama"ing. Off to play more NS...the hive mind awaits....

I think PC gaming is still better than console but its on the downward slope. Unfortunetly console is catching up in numerous areas. I still love my PC as a gaming machine far above anything else (and I own an Xbox, Gamecube and Dreamcast)

Recent PC games I've enjoyed:

Battlefield 1942
NOLF 2
Hitman 2
Mafia
Age of Mythology
Warcraft 3
Metal of Honor
Ghost Recon
Jedi Knight 2
Max Payne
Morrowind
Counter Strike

What commies? Is that game banned outside of the US or something?

<flame suit on>

Multiplayer sucks! It's just an excuse for developers to leave any real depth, story, or challenge out of the game. "Well, the whole thing's a ball of crap, but you can play ONLINE! Woo!"

If I wanted to play with other people, I would leave the house. I play computer games for the simple reason that I don't want to have to deal the large number of idiots that are out there. And if I don't want to go out to meet them, I'm sure not going to invite them into my house! (For the metaphorically challenged, I'm not being literal with the last sentence. Yes, I know, nobody would actually invite an idiot into their house. I'm using it as a figure of speech. I'm in my house, playing games = I don't want to invite them to play games with me while I'm in my house.)

I view the best of games to be a challenge between my self and the developer (or the computer itself). When you bring other people into the mix, it degenerates into a primary school playground.

</flame suit off>

There ya go folks, that ought to keep the kids busy. :)
