A while back, my dog chased down and chewed up a chipmunk.

A couple of days ago, a squirrel lured the dog into a high speed chase into the deep woods. They must have been waiting for her; she came back with a broken paw.

I have no experience with this kind of thing. Will this continue to escalate? Should I fear for the safety of my dog and/or my family? Should I keep a gun by the door?

You can almost smell the fear inside my house.

Poor dog has a cast for 6 weeks. The tip of it is a metal bar... when she walks it sounds like Captain Ahab is in the house. The had to sedate her to put it on, so she's still a little woozy; she's just pacing around whining.

Before anyone asks... yes, the wife shaved the dog, and yes, this was her first attempt ever at doing so.

This is only the beginning. Take your family and belongings and run while you still can.

Wait, You really had to come here and ask for advice? This only means one thing! WAR!

Put your combat boots and get your hunting knife, but no clothes. Itll slow you down. Then go into the woods and hunt those fuckers down. NO MERCY. KILL ON SITE!

Awww doggah :(

She's been limping around since about Thursday, but it wasn't until this weekend that we finally pinpointed the broken toe. The vet confirmed it today... she has to wear a boot for 6 weeks.

Just one single toe? Wow, impressive. She must have been moving like mad with one hell of a toe-stub on a branch or something. :(

One single toe. She was probably moving like a bat out of hell. Even among dogs she has an unusually strong hate for squirrels.

I was expecting more from a NuclearNed thread. I am disappointed.

So in that case, do nothing...then when their plan comes to fruition and they attack...we'll get a true 'storytime' NN thread.

Thats what they want - once they have lured you in by yourself they will strike. Turn your house into a fortress NOW! Cut down all the trees and mine the land. Or you can raze the forrest to force them out into the open

After Neds run in with Bee's a few years back, I can see why there is fear in the air...

Either run with your family or arm yourself with a flamethrower. None shall be spared, let the cleansing begin.

no one has gone to war with the squirrels and survived. Consider it a battle lost and retreat before they get serious.
btw, we feed the squirrels on our property peanuts and they let us live...its the only way to go. try making amends but they may want a sacrifice of the dog before you have peace.
