The Soda Hiccup

Modeps

Lifer
It seems that whenever I drink any type of carbonated drink, shortly after it flows down the ole esophogus, I have almost like an allergic reaction to it. I always hiccup, and it's severely painful much of the time. I've cut down on soda intake quite a bit, but it's so odd.

Anyone else get a similar feeling/reaction?

Certain sodas make me hiccup almost without fail. I suspected that it was somehow connected to carbon dioxide.

Wow.. lol. I thought I was the only one.

I have the same thing. It didn't used to be like that, but yup... moments after taking a large swig of any carbonated drink. *hiccup*.

My girlfriend finds it amusing. It kinda hurts sometimes tho, lol.

my wife always cracks up laughing to when my my chest feels like it's gonna implode. OW!

Perhaps we should start a "Anandtech Off Topic Soda Hiccup Support Group" or ATOTSHSG for short.

Anyone have a scientific explaination for why this happens... i always thought it was because the soda was so cold.

1. Drink soda.
2. Inhale carbon dioxide settled on the surface of the beverage
3. Hiccup.
4. ???
5. Profit!

Sierra Mist is the best carbonated soda. I have a weak stomach but I can take that. It's always cheap too.
