Its not bigotry, bigotry would be discriminating about something that a person couldn't help, such as race, genetic build, age, etc...

Yes, but see even if it is an addiction, people can stop smoking. No one can stop being black, white, tall, short, young, or old.

ausm I totally feel opposite about that. I think that any smoker who has enough determination and will power could stop smoking. I have a hard time believing that cigarettes can take over someones life single handedly.

I'm with him on this one. Determination and will power is what it takes. Unfortunately, most people don't have enough of that, or they're just plain lazy (like me - but I don't smoke).

The fact is, no matter how strongly a smoker is addicted, he or she still has the ability to quit.

What are you talking about snow patrol? Hehehehe.. ;)

And all I have to say is I dont need to explain myself or my actions to anyone or anything. Until they walk in my shoes, then they can tell me what I am capable of doing.

I would call you an "enabler" if that wasnt another facet of the BS that helps cause these problems.

Serial killers can't help it either, its an addiction. Those poor poor bastards.

I smoke. I have "quit" 3 times in the past 13 years of smoking and 19 years of using tobacco. My wife on the otherhand cannot quit the addiction. Along with the physical addiction to nicotine there is a larger mental addiction to smoking. I am currently smoking again because I enjoy smoking. I could really care less about these nonsmokers that get on their soapbox telling me how terrible my habit is. I don't tell these people how to live there lives, don't tell me how to live mine. If they don't like my habit I don't care. I don't like their habit of annoying me about the dangers of smoking habit!

And no, I don't have a raspy voice or a cackle in my laughter. Nor am I constantly in a hospital on oxygen because of my 3 pack a day habit or running up bills related to my smoking. All the nonsmokers have done is caused the cost of my habit to go up. If they declared that electricity can possibly cause health problems and you have two choices, go with out it or pay 20x the cost for having that electricty (Gotta pay for all those future health problems and hospital bills) because you made a decision you can't live without electricty despite the fact that it may cause health problems, wouldn't you be irrate and pissed at everyone?

My mom has absolutely no will power and she quit smoking after starting 25 years ago. She quit cold turkey. I am proud of her :D

ausm: are you this weakminded yourself? Or do you just beileve all people are?

People seem to think that addiction means you can't quit. This is not true. Addiction just means it will be very difficult to quit. You can be metally addicted to anything, from biting your nails, up to crack. Its all the same thing mentally, and requires nothing more than will power to stop.
Physical/chemical addictions are equally as cureable, its just a more painfull proccess.

No one "can't" quit. Its just a matter of how much they want it.

there, that was my clinical end of the thread.. now for the personal attack...
ausm: you make me sick. Your ignorance and your willingness to contribute to other peoples sickenss by acting like its not thier fault/problem are the two key factors in all addiction.
You are a key part of the problem. Your wrongness helps kill people.
Its not a direct link, but its there, and you're it.
