Hi.

Just wondering if anyone has used one of those cheap laser pointers to see the effect of light spreading out on a screen as you close the narrow slit very narrow making the light spread more & more? Do cheap lasers do it? Too bad they banned them in my country, wanted to see this effect.

What country?

Australia, wondering if those little red lasers would be ok? the beam isnt very prefect & the slit apparently is 100th of an inch wide. Which I was told use razor blades.

Hmm not sure. I think the whole point is they have to be pretty thin. Still worth a try.

You could buy diffraction gratings that have many slits in various spacings. Then a cheap laser pointer should be alright for the task.
