Well, a recent study done at California's Lawrence Berkeley National Lab found that people with exactly the same genes ? identical twins ? could have big differences in their weight. The researchers studied 35 pairs of identical twins to try to learn if certain traits, like obesity, are mostly hereditary. Their conclusion ? fat is not.

wait a second... so you're telling me that if I don't watch what I eat and instead gorge myself at every whim... that I'm going to get fat???? Oh no!


Genetics is one thing, self control is another. I'm just lucky that I've been fortunate enough to find a diet that works for me. But it does take work...

In Boston, members of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance once held a demonstration they called the Every Body Good Body Festival. They called it that proudly because, they said, there's nothing wrong with being fat, and there's not much they can do about it.
They say some people are thin, while they are fat, because being fat is their genetic destiny. Some obese belly dancers said they went to the demonstration to explain to the public that they cannot lose weight.



 
It's funny when you see a fat person eating a twinkie or something and they are telling you that they are fat because of genetics. Yea, OK!!!
 
They should have put a warning on 20/20 lastnight, morbidly obese(~300 pounds) pasty belly dancers could blind someone. That was nasty. Only reason I watched 20/20 was they were supposed to have a segment on the Dallas Maverick girls. I dont think they showed it, not sure I turned it off when they started talking about that Peterson case.

1/3 may be genes, the other 2/3s are what and how much you eat, and excercise.

 
So shouldn't they be able to live forever on fat reserves? If they stop eating, their body will use the fat reserves, and because they are genetically unable to lose fat, they will never have to eat again!
 
well the trend i saw before this was that it was becoming more and more blamed on genes. feel good stories in the media for fatties everywhere😛
