Unless I'm seriously mistaken, you're getting that information because you have 512 megs of RAM, but Windows and your background programs are using 122 megs of it.

To minimize the amount that Windows uses, you can fire up MSConfig (type that into the "Run" area of the Start Menu), go to the Startup tab, and uncheck everything extraneous. Also, Maxmem is a free, downloadable program that monitors your memory use and allows you to "refresh" your memory, that is, free up as much as possible. You can get it at AnalogX.com.

ADDED:
I just reread your post. Good lord I'm an idiot. I thought the shovel question was a signiture and... yeah...

I don't get what the 3 shovels represent.......why does jill's use of her own shovel impact the number of shovels available to Joe. We all know that what's jill's is jill's, so her shovel was never available to joe to begin with. Never argue with a woman..... and her shovel. ;)

Actually, it could be 3 shovels, it never said Jill was using one of Joe's shovels. In fact, it never said availability was limited to Joe's and/or Jill's shovels either. So it's not really that elegant. :)

I was just playing devil's advocate.

I know what they meant but my point was that to the person asking might interpret it differently. ( it doesn't say: Joe has 2 shovels, jill is using one of these shovels, how many shovels are available?)

Of course either way you look at it what if jill is the TSR type who never returns the shovel to joe. :)

Well, chances are that Joe and Jill are married, and since that legally entitles Jill to 1/2 of everything Joe has, it effectively reduces his resources. Since Jill is using 1 of his shovels, that's one half, and more than likely, Joe now must ASK Jill if he can use his other shovel.
The worst part about poor Joe's situation is, when Jill decides to leave, she'll probably take ALL the shovels, and Joe will have to take her to court to get his half of them back, which isn't worth the cost of an attorney, as Jill knows. So Joe will have to go buy all new shovels, not to mention most everything else, and IF he meets another woman, hopefully he will have her sign a prenup.

Yep, Jill is on her second marriage. Supposedly, she broke up with Jack after he broke his crown; he claims it was Jill pushing him. Given that, Jill is going to end up on a third marriage real soon; with the 2 shovels to dig #1's and #2's graves.:p

monkeyrobot:

its not a monkey humping a robot its a psych experiment to test whether children bind themselves to parents because the parents feed them or because the parents provide comfort

they took a newborn chimp and put it in a room with two monkey figures, one outa metal with a bottle of milk attatched and another with no food but covered in soft fur cloth - when baby chimp was hungry it went to metal parent but rest of time stayed with soft fur monkey - "imprinted" is the word to what gives it comfort not food

so there

That answer was more rude (ie. Your Company's Computer Guy) and definitely not elegant. If it were elegant, it would have answered the question while at the same time made fun of him.

Hey wait what does that have to do with Jack's unfortunate accident (or was it an accident) resulting in his divorce with Jill. Then Jill's marriage to Joe and her plot to murder Jack and frame Joe for Jack's murder by using one of his shovels to dig Jack's grave. Thus locking Joe away for life for the murder of Jack so that she can lay claim to both shovels.

Oh.....wait.....what was the subject of this thread......................nevermind :D
