It's my perogative to freakin' do it. If you don't like it, I'm gonna have to damn well hurt you. ;)

Actually, I've read that it is in fact not incorrect (double negative? :p) to sometimes split infinitives. (Heheh. ;)) The rule is supposedly based upon Latin grammar. Fortunately for us, English is not Latin.

The other one I hate is the indiscriminate use of "I". It annoys me to no end to hear "He gave the tickets to Lily and I"... Arrgghghghgh!

There are some instances where it is darn difficult to avoid using one without sounding like a freak.

Yeah, in my technical writing book, it says split infintives are not that evil and are just a hangover from Latin. Same with not ending sentences with a preposition (example: I need someone to go to the dance with.)

A split infinitive is sticking an adverb between the &quot;to&quot; and the actual verb. Example: To boldly go where no man/one has gone before <-- from Star Trek. That was what my previous post was making light of.
