"The Sims" is a stupid game.

I was watching my roommate play this last night. The object of the game is to keep little green bars from shrinking and turning into little red bars.

i.e. you have a "hygeine" bar. It slowly, continually deacreases until you click on a shower, after which it resumes decreasing. Same with a "Hunger" bar until you click on a refrigerator. The entire game consists of clicking on fridges and telephones and garbage cans in an attempt to keep little green bars from shrinking to 0. There is no character development, no level advancement, no enemies to beat, no overall objective.

I think I have to question the intelligence of anyone who plays this game for more than an hour or two.

Thats no true you are given tasks at each new level. Examples make a friend throw a good party, raise the kids etc...

It's a superb time-waster, much like ATOT. I've never gotten in to it.

That hardly sounds like a compelling argument FOR it :D

different strokes for different folks.

I like to design houses and stuff in the game, but I rarely go into "live mode".

I know more about The Sims than I should because my wife has it. I like to think of it as playing with dolls for grown-up girls. There is character development and level advancement to some degree - you have different attributes that you can enhance by studying books, playing games, lifting weights, etc. Personally, I would like for there to be an objective, but I guess this doesn't matter to the ladies.

For the record, I've never actually played the game for more than a second or two.

Considering it's one of the best selling games ever, I dont think all that many people agree with you.

I'd have to question the intelligence of the person who chooses to live with this person...

Aren't "Deer Hunter" and "Myst" some of the best selling games ever?

touche!

I hated Myst with a passion... but it was bundled with like, everything. so i'm guessing that's how it achieved that status. but that's just a guess. deer hunter, well... there are a lot of hicks in this world, and it's cheap.

I really enjoyed Myst a lot when it first came out.

never had a desire to play any of the sequels, though, or buy any of the hundreds of remakes.

I doubt that bundling was the reason Myst was so successful. I didn't have it, but I knew a ton of people who had purchased it.

Deer Hunter was popular b/c it was like $10 at Wal-Mart. ;)

I played it once. I built big houses, and then I would take the kids, lure them into a closet, and then delete the door.

she would miss school, get hungry, illiterate, and sad. Eventually the childcare people showed up to take the kid away, but they couldn't figure out how to get her so they just left. Hehehehe. And I got a couple siblings romantically involved in each other. Then it got boring, so I made the house really unsafe and people started dying in small fires. Eventually the whole thing went up, and I haven't played since.

That sounds more fun than playing it the normal way.

I built huge houses that it took people 30 minutes to walk to school so they were always late for school. So I put a fence in front of the school bus so the bus couldn't leave until the kids got breakfast, showered, and then got onto the bus at 10:30.

I enjoyed Sims for a few months and plan to buy Sims 2 when it comes out. It's compelling. It doesn't satisfy in the same way that GTA3 or the Civ series do, but it's a lot more fun than you would expect from the descriptions :)
