I think I would have found that interesting 15 years ago. Not so big a revelation right now. Not that it mattered, considering none of the springfields resemble the one in the show.
Umm, I lived in Eugene for 3 years.
Believe me the simpsons universe is NOT even remotely based on Springfield. Not even close. The best thing you can say about that town is all the strip clubs, and they are damn sure arent anything like Abe Simpsons burlesque house.

I KNEW those low income liberal assholes lived in Oregon. They, like their kin, enjoy living in a state with no sales tax that put's disproportionate hardship on the privileged. Damn working poor get all the breaks around here.
sometimes, but more to feel like a kid again. (I was 2 or 3 when the first episode aired) I have to admit I liked it more when I was younger, but that could be the show or my personality.
I didn't watch whatever's in the OP, but the Simpsons frequently references New England. How about when the leaves are changing, all the guidos from NYC come to see the leaves, and Peter wants to watch the Patriots football game rather than the Jets?

Children, children. Read the actual interview, not the headlines people are screaming across the internet.
The Simpsons do not live in Oregon. What Groening says is that he was inspired by the nearby town of Springfield, OR - when he was younger, he thought a show with a town named Springfield was based there, but it turns out it was just a fictional town - then he learned that Springfield was extremely common, so he thought it would be cool if everyone thought it was *their* Springfield.
Not to mention the litany of reasons that make Springfield being on Oregon not possible:
They are walking distance from Vegas
They are a $10 bus ride from NYC
They border a place called "West Springfield" that's much larger than Texas
Occasionally, they are on the west coast...but not always
There are no nuclear power plants in Oregon, even though sometimes the Simpsons are right next door to theirs
Its clearly a fictional town that can be anywhere in the country when need be, even if its inspiration was a real one.

It's clearly a fictional town, but this point is not true; the Trojan nuclear plant was in Oregon, and it was still active when the Simpsons first went on the air. Granted, it's since been decommissioned and destroyed, but it was around when the show was being designed.
