ThisIsMatt - Did you buy your bike new? I like it. I rode a Kona a few weeks ago down a mountain. Had a bad crash. Nice bikes though.

No wonder. $400 for a Kona Blast is an awesome price.

Enduro 8 is a Cateye cyclocomputer.

I saw ads for their new wireless computers. It measures everything you can imagine. I can't wait til they come out, though I am not sure when that is.

edit: and they have wireless versions available...

Just wondering what's a good beginners road bike? The under $500 range. The best one I've seen in my day long search has been the giant ocr 3. Any others? I know getting a later modle bike is a better deal but I don't know where to find those. My local bike shop seems to be very expensive and their sales seem a bit lackluster, like $100 off 700 for an '02 model.

IMHO it's better to get a used one when you have that budget

Well, the problem is finding a good reliable used one. I'm currently tracking a 2002 giant ocr with 1 more day to go at $385. I might go for it if it stays under $425 by the closing seconds. It looks to be a real good condition. The new models are about $599 and some 2003 are marked down even more I think to like $499.??

That's about the only road bike that seems to come in under my budget. I know buying used is supposed to be a better deal if you have a low budget....so what other used bikes do you guys recommend?

How much does a bike typically devalue by after say 1 yr, 2 yrs, 3 yrs? I know different bikes cost different amts so a couple of examples might help.

edit:

oh by the way, the bike I'm looking at has the following upgrades..
"Shimano 105 triple crank, Look PP 206 Pedals, Alex DR 13 Front rim, Continental GP Attack Front tire (700x22c), Mavic CXP 11 rear rim, Continental GP Force rear tire (700x23c) and a Blackburn MC-1 water cage."

Are they any good? I'm a total bike n00b. Thanks for any help!

Where do you live?

Many places have papers dedicated to cycling, look in them for used road bikes.
Also check the bulletin boards at your local bike shops.
This time of year many people start cleaning out their garages and storage spaces, so check at garage sales and the like.

No offense, but that's too nice a bike for a kickstand, and I would ditch at least some of the reflectors. It really is a nice bike, though, so  for you!
