Haven't watched a series I've enjoyed more or been more frustrated with than The Shield.
I'm willing to bet any fan of the show still has a certain haunting image involving Captain Aceveda, a camera phone, and... ughhh burned into their mind.
I need to circle back to it. I watched the first disc of the first season and was not impressed at all - it felt cartoonish and over-the-top - but many people say it's amazing. That being said, I find it very hard to believe that what I saw could, over the run of the show, turn into something of the caliber of the Sopranos or Mad Men, much less Breaking Bad or The Wire. To me it felt more like an Oz - a decent but slightly primitive prototype for the better, more nuanced serialized dramas that would come later.
Agree1) Breaking Bad
2) The Shield
3) The Wire

1) The Shield/Breaking Bad

3) ...
The Shield had some moments that Breaking Bad just never quite touched.I can't recall any scene in Breaking Bad that was that intense. When Shane drops the grenade in Lem's car, that was just ...WOWl.
It was until the last season imo, they really botched the ending. It should have stopped at the end of season 4.
Forrest Whittaker was an incredible addition to the show. It's not even that I didn't like the ending, just the way they handled certain characters was really rushed.
