My mom got a letter in, the school system is letting her go along with a bunch of other teachers because of Haley barbers budjet cuts he pushed thru for education. 20 years of teaching and gone just like that. So, that means a number of things might change over the next few months, she has got a job untill june. we will have to depend on my dads income, maybe i can talk them into letting me go to the dorms of the local junior college when i graduate HS in may, so i can have broadband if they decide to move to save money. well, for our swell newly elected governor and oh yeh, fvk him

My local county hospital just let off like 150 workers, as if they weren't under employed already.

Sorry to hear that -- school systems at all levels from K to College keep wasting more and more money on administration (aka bureaucracy) so budgets go up and/or teachers get cut.

that's horrible. good luck to your family, I hope she has good luck finding another job (if they're gettin' rid of all the good experienced teachers, the kids are gonna be flocking away from the publics to the privates.. they may need good experienced teachers!).

I mean.. heck, someone has to teach the kids, what are they gonna do without teachers? that makes no sense.

my sympathies though.. been through that experience (lay off) a time or two myself, it sucks.

Welcome to the American life, at least Californians anyway, and yeah... vote for bush.

If you take over a bankrupt organization in hope to make it better, it's not your fault that the organization is already in deep doodoo. Don't be hatin Arnold.

Just about every public employee anywhere is getting it stuck to them right now. I'm one of them, but I'm thankful to at least still have a job. In Oregon, people like me aren't eligible for any raises whatsoever for the next 2 years at least; not even cost of living adjustments. Lots of folks are being forced to retire due to what the governor here is doing with their pension (read: trying to nullify a decades-old contract that pays them "guaranteed" retirement). Anyhow, that sucks, but I don't really understand what you moving out to get broadband has to do with anything...

I don't know if he is living off his own money or not, but if he is it will reduce their expenses considerably.

Isn't that at colleges/universities?

I'm not sure how tenure works in public schools, but I imagine if she was a music, art, or PE teacher she could have been there for 50 years and she'd get knocked before the history teacher who's been there for 5.

damn straight, my school has 5 principles (that get payed 3 times as much as teachers) and we only have 137 people in my senior class, other grades have about the same amount in them. But the outrageous coaches compensation and adminstrators will remain unchanged

moving to the dorms is gonna cost $$$$. You plan on paying extra for that instead of helping out at home ?

Yeah, Haley sucks. If I'm still in Mississippi when elections come around again, he's going out. ;)
